Thermostats: What does it do?

The thermostat helps regulate the flow of coolant to the radiator and through the engine. When the engine is cold, the thermostat remains closed preventing the release of coolant until the engine has reached its optimal operating temperature.

TECH TIP: Best practices to get the most out of your Thermostat.

  • Replace the thermostat whenever conducting maintenance to the cooling system.
  • A failed or stuck thermostat will cause overheating of the engine leaving stuck on the road.
  • Thinking about your thermostat before it fails is better than thinking about your thermostat when you’re on the side of the road.
